Technology info

Many protocols were supported by the platform. All but one of them were supported by "Protocol Spoofing". This required significant knowledge of protocol functionality on both ends of the network. At the Hub side we emulated the remote side and at the VSAT side we emulated the Host/FEP. Only "Information Packets" traversed the Satellite link.

Early on, the most common protocols used on the network were SNA/SDLC, X.25, Bisync.

TCP/IP became the most dominant as our customer base moved to it. The Satellite network appeared as a Router to the customers network.

Network Management used IP as it's protocol in the Satellite network.

This was a fun and very interesting experience!
